Wugongkou Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Sichuan south of Gansu. The Wugongkou Fm was named by the Second Geological Team of the Sichuan Bureau of Geology in 1977, and published in the Regional Geology of Sichuan in 1991. The naming section is located in Wugongkou, Mupi Township, Pingwu County, Sichuan Province.
Synonym: (蜈蚣口组)
Lithology and Thickness
The formation consists mainly of sericite quartz phyllite (slate), interbedded with minor thin-bedded meta-sandstone or crystalline limestone lenses. Along the strike, it changes into frequent alternating beds of thin-bedded crystallized limestone with sericitized quartz phyllite. It is 18-139 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The formation is disconformable or unconformable onto the underlying ?Sinian (or Cryogenian glacial till) of the Muzuo Fm
Upper contact
It is conformably overlain by the Shuijing Fm
Regional extent
Sichuan south of Gansu. The formation is distributed in Motian, Houlongmen and Gongling mountains, Sichuan Province.
